Tom DeFazio

Tom DeFazio has been shooting mixed martial arts for over 15 years. A founding member of ground-breaking publication Full Contact Fighter, he has traveled the world to give fans a ringside seat for the action as well as a look behind the scenes.
At a time when columnists and editors of traditional martial arts publications regularly published their less than favorable opinions of the UFC and “mainstream” sports magazines turned their noses up at the sport, Full Contact Fighter not only kept fans in touch and informed as the sport was forced underground, but also rallied devotees to protest against the politicians and cable companies that sought to eradicate the burgeoning sport.
With a background in traditional martial arts such as kyokushin karate and judo, Tom fell immediately and deeply in love with the Ultimate Fighting Championship when it debuted in November of 1993. Further training in shootfighting, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, helped give Tom a unique vision when shooting mixed martial arts.
Born and raised in New York City, Tom has lived in the beautiful Garden State for nearly 30 years. He has provided MMA fans around the world a window into the evolution of the sport in New Jersey, from the early days of the BAMA Fight Night events, through the first sanctioned professional events in the state, to the present day awesomeness that is New Jersey Mixed Martial Arts.
